Default Summer Fire Season Is Upon Us Boy 'n Girls

This is from the 30 June news..... the 'fire count' is up approximately 100 new fires since last weekend even. This is not good news out there.

To those who do a lot of camping - stay safe and BE SAFE. For the folks who work these fires, BE SAFER!! Take care out there.

Hundreds of fires char B.C. Interior

CanWest News Service June 30, 2004

VANCOUVER -- British Columbia is ablaze with 434 fires burning 86,574 hectares, a dramatic increase from last year at this time when there were 101 fires and only 3,735 hectares burning.

The province's biggest blaze remains the Swan Lake fire, 15 kilometres south of the B.C.-Yukon border. It's grown from 22,000 to about 34,000 hectares, is uncontained and destroyed a trapper's cabin a few days ago.

Meanwhile, the evacuation alert around Lillooet, northeast of Vancouver, was extended Tuesday to encompass 300 more people in nearby Seton Lake. An 880-hectare wildfire burning on steep terrain is proving tough work for firefighters, but crews have contained about 25 per cent of the blaze, said Kirk Hughes, fire information officer.

The fire is burning two km from 80 recreational cabins on the lake, and six km east of Lillooet.

More than 3,900 residents around the town remain on evacuation alert from the 1,300-hectare Town Creek fire, which has burned for weeks. It's now 60 per cent contained.

Ya us too. The Grapevine says that Forestry is already looking for stand-by crews and equipment, to try and pre-plan better than last year.

Earlier in the year they requested information from all Stations regarding vehicles, personal gear and all accessories, so that they could compile a list of "Types Resources" as is generally laid out in the ICS manuals. Its going to be an interesting year for sure.

Sadly, NO... Southern Vancouver Island, just a wee bit north of Victoria, British Columbia. But the interior of BC is starting to burn itself out again... for whatever remains from last year.

We are already at a "100% No Fires" except for supervised camp grounds right now. And it is going to get worse if the weather stays like it is right now....

Montana had a EARLY fire bust in March. Localy we had IIRC 22 brush fires in the county and on mutual aid calls.

Then we got a small bit of rain and it greened up until last week.

Now we are declaired drought disaster again and we have had 3 brush fires in 7 days...

    1 power pole...

    2 fireworks!!! Happy 4th.

Still only a few lightning caused fires for the year.

This week the haying machiner is going to be operating all over the o****y. They are always good for a few fires, swater blade hits a rock, bearings go out, etc...

The reason I asked was that I havent seen anyone talk about
"Typed Resources" in here before. This is very common
terminology in CA since we use type 1,2,3,4 "strike teams"
of engines, brush engines, patrols, bull dozers, etc.

    Good luck...

After doing the ICS 200 in the spring, I would have fingured that this would have been done a long time ago. Apparently, like so many other "great ideas" it took a near very major natural disaster to make it happen.

Darn I love it when a system that we know works takes no time at all to get initiated. **insert max sarcasm**

    Default More...

Bro- If you crave more information. Here is our
Field Ops Guild (FOG) in an 8.5 X 11 printable
    format.

I think you'll like the info. and might be able
to use it. ICS, like other things in the fire
    service is somewhat military driven.
