The class was good. There is the standard lecture followed by a simulation. Well actually a morning sim and an afternoon follow-up sim. Like every one of these classes, the simulation was not written with everyone in mind, but I could see how it worked. I also came out of the class thinking of situations where I would want to use the unified command structure. I'm signed-up for Train the Trainer later this month.
The class only works well when you have a diverse group. We had Fire, EMS, Police, Public works, IL Dep. of Public Health, and a couple of others that I just don't remember. I had taken the Intro to NIMS on the FEMA website ahead of time and I felt it was helpful. It only takes a few minutes and it was worth it. There is an a lot of information that you just can't get in an 8 hour class. The online class helped me to understand the basic workflow better.
