Thomas Carmody- Cranston FD (Ret.)
Thomas Carmody Jr. served 33 years as a member of the Cranston, RI Fire Department, retiring in 1997 as Assistant Chief of the Department. He joined the department in 1964 as a firefighter and quickly went to the Department's busiest station and drove Engine 3. He was then promoted to LT and moved across the floor to Ladder 3. He made captain and was assigned to the Division of Training. He was promoted to Deputy Chief and assigned to the 3rd platoon. He was then promoted to Assistant Chief and served there until his retirement. He received several awards during his time on the department.
Prior to entering the fire service, he served on a US Navy Destroyer during the Korean War. His ship was also in close proximity to the Andrea Doria the night she went down and assisted in the rescue efforts.
He was a great firefighter and more importantly, a great father. We will all miss him very much.
