Default Sacro scandal making fools of FOOLS

The whole porn star ball thing is now dragging the FOOLS down. One lawyer said, "It's an organization that's steeped in tradition. And they have a reputation of being very exclusionary, almost cult-like and gang-like."

FOOLS, time for some damage control...

I read the article and just don't see why FOOLS was even mentioned at all.

    Default Ok...

OK...Where to start. The article did mention the
FOOLS, and the Sac's chapter called the "Orangemen"
and the female who was harrassed.

The Orangemen and female incidents go back aways,
the article is basicly tying all of these sexual
    events together.

This is sad and embarrassing. The Sac City is
a pretty good agency. Yes, they themselves are
deep in tradition, but still a good place to
    work.

Unforunatly, it was Cali's turn for the black eye
on the fire service "Wheel of Fortune."

First off, I don't condone disrespectful behavior. That being said, sometimes, as we all know, allegations such as these have little if no merit. I wonder what it's like to blame someone for something that didn't even happen??? I think all sexual predators should be killed on site... Why, I have two daughters. But I also know of a couple of folks who had to register as sex offenders because they "committed" a crime. They had "relations" with a female, who when their current boyfriend or husband found out, changed her story to rape. Amazing what people can get away with. I'm surprised so many men fall for this crap. I'd spend my last penny discrediting the (you know what word goes here) till my last breath. Just my opinion

the problem is that, whether consentual or not, the evidence is pretty much the same. especially if, as many of the women medic162 refers to do, the charge is filed weeks down the line. i take a big issue with women playing the rape card to keep their BF/husbands from finding out they had a affair on teh side. women like tht give the rest of us a bad name. on the other hand, it is hard to pin down whether or not the rape was real, simply because so many women who are assaulted wait to report it becuase of the psychological issues and such.

unfortunately, many agencies, espeically those in traditionally male-dominated areas, hear something like this and automatically assume the worst, instead of thoroughly investigating the charges like thye should, jsut to do damage control for the PR.

i have no idea whether the incident in question was real or not. if it was, those involved should be prosecuted (and shot). if not, i feel that the same fate should await the one who decided to ruin people's lives by making such an accusation. i just wish that peopel would investigate a bit more before throwing others to the wolves...

    Bones,

I thought the same thing... why even mention the fact that some or all those invloved belong to the FOOLS? If they all belong to the NFPA, VFW, IAFF or NHRA would that have been mentioned.

Although I don't know anything specific..I could hazzard a guess based on past media issues dealing with the FOOLS and fire administrations. The Fire admin prob droped a dime on them as being members of this "cult" or "gang". I imagine there is a chief who has an axe to grind and too much time on his hands. Wherelse would a reporter find out such perceptions about FOOLS than from a non-member that dislikes them. 99.99% of the general population has never heard of fools so that limits the possible sources if you ask me.

    Default Guilt by association

The FOOLS/Orangemen link was in context of the sexual harassment lawsuit that is filed.

At this part of the process, the lawyers representing the complaintant are showing various associations that would show a pattern of behavior that would create a workplace that would allow, condone or encourage sexual harassment.

It is like when fire administration does a disciplinary dump on some one they are trying to fire, demote or run away.

    Firefighters Slated For Termination Returning
Employees Deemed 'Salvageable' During Appeals Process

    POSTED: 12:27 p.m. PST November 24, 2004
    UPDATED: 5:53 p.m. PST November 24, 2004

    Story by The KCRA Channel

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Five Sacramento city firefighters who were sent termination letters in October have been reinstated.

In all, nine firefighters were sent termination letters following two investigations into firefighter misconduct.

The first investigation came after city officials learned that a group off on-duty firefighters from Station 20 attended the Porn Star Costume Ball at the Radisson Hotel. A second investigation followed after allegations of other firefighter misconduct surfaced.

KCRA 3 has learned that the firefighters who were sent termination letters were never actually fired. Instead, they began a public employees' appeals process, during which city officials determined that five of the firefighters were "salvageable" employees.

The five have signed agreements essentially putting them on a five-year probation, which would allow them to be terminated for any infraction without appeal rights.

KCRA 3 has also learned that two other firefighters expected to be terminated have also not been fired because they are still going through the appeals process.

The decision to reinstate the firefighters rests with Chief Joe Cherry, who is on vacation this week, but spoke KCRA 3 by phone from Dallas, Texas.

Cherry said that he made a fair settlement with the five firefighters, and that they signed an employee agreement saying they could have no additional blemishes on their records or they can be immediately terminated.

Cherry said the five firefighters were followers, not leaders, and will be on very tight five-year probation. He said two fire captains, now appealing their dismissal, will not be offered the same deal.

Attorney Wendy York, a fire department critic who is suing the city for harassment on behalf of a female firefighter, reacted to Wednesday's revelations.

"In my estimation, this department held a big PR stunt to make it appear to the public, mislead the public, that they were taking this seriously," York said. "And then they already had, I believe, a backup plan to let these guys be reinstated."

I guess pointing out the stupidity of screwing around with a woman you know nothing about and the wisdom of keeping it in your pants would be considered missing the point here, huh?
