    Default Update

With one thing or another this week we have been mentioning the UK Fire Service and I've been answering a few questions.

So just so happens that my Station website was updated this week becuase it was getting a little cluttered. For those who have been before it should load quicker apart from the Photo Gallery Page which is more suited to Broadband.

Still a whole bunch of Photos to go on so check back in a while.

Very Kull Steve! Nice job on the site.

    ffspo0k...

We don't like them...they come from EU (European Union) legislation which doesn't sit easy with us Brits anyway...the man on the street in the UK isn't much of a 'european' like the French, Germans, Belgians etc...etc...

Anyway, enough of the anti-European rants...

Up to the late 80's we had the traditional UK Cork Fire helmet Similar to a Traditional US Helmet, with a shorter neck curtain and a protective 'comb' on top.

These changed across the country in the 90's for the typical Fibreglass 'Pacific' style helmet used in the US, many Brigades in the UK still use them although they will all have to change.

In 1999 we (London) went over to this 'starwars' style Helmet...used primarily in France I have to say they are hot and get on my nerves. They also reduce your hearing ability with noise from behind greatly reduced (not what you need if someone behind is trying to warn you!!!

If I had a choice..I'd have to go for a Traditional Leather US Helmet....as no one makes the old style UK Helmet anymore.

BTW I was riding with a FDNY Station in 2002 and left my turnouts hanging with the others while I went out with a few of the guys for the day. I came back in the afternoon to find one of the Fireman's sons running around the Firehouse playing Star Wars...with my Helmet on. As a Chief I have a white on with black stripes... it was a dead ringer for something straight out of the film!!!

    Steve,
How many London stations have web sites? I know that Poplar and Euston do, Just had a look at Eustons, a lot of the names brought back memories, are there others? Also has Poplar lost the TL?
