    Default Timing...getting worried?

I've been using these forums as a great resource and hanging low, but I wanted to ask a question to those who seemed much more "seasoned" than I in this subject.

Since the very first year, I have applied for a FEMA grant. We have yet to be approved in the 4 years of the program. For the first time, I received the 1199A request last week (Wednesday 7/14) which greatly got my hopes up. That same day, I FedExed the form back and it was received the next morning at 10:04AM (Thursday 7/15).

I have yet to receive the "8 Questions" or a confirmation (which is the least of my concerns.)

I'm wondering if perhaps I missed an e-mail? From all the stories I've read here while lurking, it seems the questions/1199 request are usually a day apart. There is no waiting mail in my FEMA profile. Is this a normal thing, or should it have been alot sooner?

Also, do Senators, etc. ALWAYS call prior to the notification from FEMA? Just curious.

I'm joyfully excited to even get the 1199A request, as I applied for apparatus which would be a huge chunk of change, and a HUGE benefit to us. Any help is greatly appreciated from the "award winning veterans."

Talking Same as the last Post

Everything is looking great on your part. There is no set pattern on the "eight question", 1199A, the senator's call, and the award. It may take up to weeks to get the questions. If you have gotten the 1199A, you're right in there. Get your shopping list out. You never know about the senator's call, last year I found out we got our award on Firehouse.com. The senator's office got a hold of me the next day( big help). It looks like you are going to be an "award winning veterans." Congrats on the 1199A

    Default THE LONGEST WAIT..........

    SLY,
I think our dept. has one of the longest waiting times from 1199a to actual award.
    1. 1199a request Oct. 16, 2003
    2. Confirmation for 1199a 3 wks later (fema said it can take up to one month to process)
    3. 8 questions Dec. 12, 2003
    4. Confirmation for questions 3 days later
    5. Award notification Jan. 23, 2004
    6. Performance period started Feb. 15, 2004

I have never heard of any department that has received either an 1199a or the questions (one may come before the other) not being awarded. I just wanted to give our timeline as it was just as stressful as waiting from June 2003 to October 2003 just for the 1199a (4 months) then another 3 months before award notification.

Continue to check both your contact email and the application. Our 1199a and 8 questions came to our contact email the 1199a confirmation came to both contact email and application mail.

We were awarded SCBA and turnout gear in 2003, we spent Oct. 03 thru Feb. 04 evaluating different packs and gear - then we were ready to bid out by time our performance period started.

Said all that just to let you know how long it could take - congrats. on your grant, if youíre not ready to bid or quote out your purchases now is a good time to finalize your request and wait on your award notification.

Print all email correspondence you have with fema from both contact and application email and put in your FEMA Grant Folder along with any other information related to your grant.

Again congrats on your grant and hope your wait is short,

    Chief Spann

    Matt,

Thanks for the quick reply and answers. It helps.

    Chief Spann,

That is great (I think) news. Of all these war stories I've read, yours is certainly to most enduring!

I received confirmation today (to application Mail Center ONLY) that my 1199A was received and processed. So my timeline is as follows:

    - 1199A Request Received via e-mail (7/14)
    - Returned to FEMA Office by 10:04AM (7/15)
    - Confirmation e-mail of 1199A receipt and processing (7/20)

Now comes the next hardest part...sitting still! It sounds as if I'm right on track, but I just wanted to be sure. I think that things sound very promising, and I would be very devistated if we don't get it, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. This is a huge event for our company. Thanks for all your help.

P.S. I was born n' raised in Mansfield, maybe I have the Northwest Louisiana curse? (Small world!)

    Thanks again all.

GOT my 8 questions today and I'm hard as a rock. Replied immediately via e-mail. Is that the proper way to do it?

    Chief,

    Check your e-mail!

    Thumbs up

Yes, and you should rec. a confirmation from the Fire Grant Specialist that sent you the questions, if not give them at least 5-7 working days before requesting it.

Good luck to all those like myself wearing out your key boards checking emails 3 times a day......lol. Im really bad because its the first and last thing I do almost every day.

    Question

    DW,
How did you receive the questions and who sent them to you. Try contacting that Specialist to make sure that they have received your reply.

I recieved them in an email, but there was nothing in it stating that I should reply via email. It mentioned a Fax number a few times. My questions were a bit longer because we requested an exhaust extraction system and FEMA needed to know things about the building (historic registry etc.) and if it was located in a special flood zone. I guess I'll send a reply via email to the specialist asking her if she recieved the Fax.

Ah, so you didn't get the 10 questions, you got clarification questions. I'd send the same answers in the fax to the email as well just to play it safe. If it's a single fax machine in the office of many people (like my office) sometimes faxes wander around for a while before they end up with the right person. If it's a fax to email setup, (like University of Phoenix has, among others) it would have gone to their Inbox.

Either way, send the email then make a phone call to whoever sent you the email. There's enough other things to worry about these days.
