Default Two Il-76 waterbombers on a Moscow runway; ready to roll

    FEMA orders 'em up.

US Forest Service shuts 'em down,
    thereby bringing disgrace upon itself,
its nation; the 1st responder community
    generally, and embarrassment for Sergei
    Shoigu, Russian emergencies minister since
Yeltsin and Russia's second most trusted
    politician:

Maybe you didn't know the nuclear materiel at
Cerro Grande was actually at risk:

Too Proud: MSNBC reprint version: http://www.vadscorner.com/tooproud.html

An online poll was run at MSNBC. The article
    went quickly to #1 there.

15K voters voted the poll. 94% wanted to give
    the Russians a fair chance.

    Question

Many of your posts indicate a passionate interest in bringing these aircraft to North America. What is your motivation? Is it just a fascination with this aircraft....or ???

You may think of me as a researcher.

    Firehouse.com didn't dream this stuff
    up: http://cms.firehouse.com/content/art...nId=4&id=30430

It has a history that needs to be told
    for humanitarian reasons.

Were you for the aircraft or against it?

Do you think Kovaleski/ABC will drop the other
    shoe .....nationally?

Thumbs down Well, Where Are We Going?

I'm asking in plain English: Are you, in any way, associated with any Company that makes, rents, flies, uses, or whatever, anything to do with this aircraft?? Plain English. Yes or No Answers.

It doesn't really matter now that Wendell
Shedd has come to the rescue of the decision
    makers on the IL-76 waterbomber.

The same ones who brought the US this state
    of affairs, I presume:

    Question So??......

I don't know, or care, who Mr. Shedd is (no disrespect intended to Mr. Shedd, I'm just questioning the relevance of this to my earlier post.) And, Bud, your answer IS still relevant. "It doesn't matter now" is not a Yes or No answer. So, With that, I, and others, will assume that you are promoting Russian Aircraft commercially.

Thanks for the reminder that promoting
    firefighting resources is unacceptable
to you and all your friends at Firehouse.com.

    The debate surrounding Pravda's publication
    of this piece:

...and one Wendell Shedd's response to it has,
accordingly, been taken to other fora* in keeping
with this socialist policy of yours.

Sorry to have hit a tender spot in your firefighter
sensibilities and those of all your comrades.

    Carry on.

    A little sensative, are we?

Not that it matters at all, but there are lots of vendors that post on the forums and make valuable contributions to the fire service.

They aren't ridiculed because they (1) state up front that they work for/sell the product being discussed and (2) don't use every thread and post to pump up their product at the expense of government agencies or competitors.

If you want to see how it works, check out the thermal imaging topics were reps from a couple of maunfacturers regularly post valuable information.

And don't start that "they hate it because it is Russian" junk here. It may matter at a national government level but I really doubt that anyone on the fire line (or in these forums) cares if air support comes from Ilyushin, Boeing, Dassault, Lockheed, Antonov, or Joe's Pool Hall as long as it delivers the goods when needed.

    Well.

    That's a relief. Sorry if my skin's a
little thin at this point but the webmaster
at TheySaidIt and some of the posters at
Free Republic adopt the position that such
    touting is unwelcome.

I thought I was being hounded because
I promote this aircraft, and I DO.

    Three points:

    (a) Promoters have written to Pravda, expressing
regret that President Bush was dragged into this.
Clearly, he's not to blame. God knows he has enough to
do without worrying whether he's getting the straight
goods on the machine from the bureaucrats.

    (b) There's no shortage of non-financially-interested
opinion supporting the airplane; something a good read
some of those pieces which have been posted would say.

    (c) All promoters ever wanted was a fair chance to
show what the airplane can do in the US; not on some
remote airport in the middle of the largest nation in
the world where nobody can see it, as per this NATO
    exercise: http://www.nato.int/multi/photos/2002/m020925d.htm

    (d) a well-recognized US industrial concern volunteered to
put up the cash to show it in the US but, faced with a
statement like We don't CARE how good it is. We'll
    NEVER use it.
from the Forest Service, who would recommend
    such a waste of cash?

Note that this hasn't stopped the Forest Service from
telling people a move to mega-tankers is afoot:

Large air tankers to be tested in the US.

It only stops them from mentioning one that's been in
service for a decade in Russia and elsewhere.

In other news from Secretary of the Interior, however,
touting the value of the small SEAT aircraft in AZ during
one of their big spring blazes, Less is more and
    small is beautiful
    were the messages-of-the-day
despite the fact some small percent of the wildfires,
say 5%, do 95% of the damages.

If any of you guys know Tom Robinson, of Global Emergency Response, my hat's off to him. He's hung in there through
all kinds of frustration and abuse for the better part of a decade
on this, and I don't need to remind you what happened to the
USFS' large air tanker program in the meantime.

He even hung in when FEMA ordered up two (2) for Los
Alamos only to be punted at the last minute, while those aircraft were on a Moscow runway, ready to roll out.

Tom expressed his non-financially interested support for the Il-76 waterbomber here, in this letter to the prestigious Johnson's Russia List.

Speaking of Tom Robinson, here's the latest
from Tom out of Moscow News:
