Just stumbled upon this forum and was reading some of the threads that prompted me to ask a question. I was recently discharged (honorable) from Marine Corps bootcamp for having asthma as a kid.. I've always wanted to become a firefighter after I did a student type program with the Forest Service for a summer. Ive checked into every agency I could think of but none of them have anything open. The volunteer departments here all require you to be 21. The community college discontinued its fire science courses, so Im out of luck. My question is, are there any types of summer apprenticeship/student programs through any agency that I can do under the age of 21? Also the best way to get started on a carreer path in firefighting? Thanks for your time.
