Default GAO blasts wildland firefighting effort

A new General Accounting Office (GAO) study

http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d03503.pdf, released on June 2, details the Forest Service's "serious financial and performance accountability weaknesses."

According to the report, the Forest Service has not been able to provide Congress and the public with a clear understanding of what its 30,000 employees accomplish with the approximately $5 billion it receives every year.

which was released on June 02, 2003
Released over 1 year ago is harldy new. But leave out the year and it's a good salesman's pitch.

Do you have any updates on what may have changed in the last year regarding this?

Change moves with all the speed of a
glacier before the days of global warming.

I do know that the pot chosen from which to
cover off on this year's fire effort is
military and that there should be no going
    back for more.

The report was issued in June 2003.

Allstate is threatening a suit in 2004.

Nothing much has changed, it seems.

    Nothing much at all.

Are you a commie or a socialist bonsey,
or are you a bureaucrat who just picks favourite
    contractors?

0 for 3. Just someone who likes facts and not salesman's spins.

You've been asked in a couple of threads who you are. Have you answered their questions yet?

The weakness of your response to the thread topic
and the weakness of your personal prying is duly
    noted.

If you check the thead post article again, you'll see
    expert opinion on the IL-76.

You will also see sorry outcomes from pack of planning.
