    Default Unified Command

We attended the new Unified Command class today and survived. It was actually quite interesting and informative. We had a diverse group from Fire, EMS, and Law Enforcement but lacked participation from local government, and elected officials. The instructors did an excelent job and made the class well worth attending.

We did find out that we are not done with our training to meet the requirements with NIMS. Everyone there was under the impression that by attending this class and passing a resolution we would be in compliance with NIMS. We found today that we must now schedule a tabletop exercise with IEMA. You must pass this exercise to receive a NIMS completion number to use on grants, etc.

Gosh, Josh, I'd like to take credit for it, but Les actually went to the class and posted the info.
Les, I thought the Unified Command class included the table top exercise. You talking about an 8 hour or so class? I'm hoping that we are going to take the one with the exercise and then we're done. I think we'll be able to get a few (very few) government officials there. We've got 3 on our county board that are always at our county assn. meetings and we might even be able to talk a couple mayors into attending. We'll see what happens in the next few months.

Yea Jack ... we had the 8 hour class with the tabletop exercise but you still will have to have the additional 4 hour exercise with IEMA to be certified. Everyone was rather supprised when this was announced at the class.
