    Question 11 in 7 out...FDNY

Forgive me if this is stupid. A while back, I was @ a conference, and heard some FDNY guys refer to the 11 in 7 out rule in regards to SCBA usage (or something of the sort). Could anyone enlighten me on what this means? Does it mean that you work for 11 minutes in an IDLH and then have 7 minutes to get out? Are there any standards published on this?

    Thanks for your help.

    Default

11-7 is a approximate working time/exit time for a person using a 30 minute SCBA. Times vary by the persons health/condition, the activity being performed and ability to control breathing (not freaking out).

Used more to make a point during a presentation than used on the fireground.
