Default New Jersey Firefighter Killed Battling Two Alarm Blaze

New Jersey Firefighter Killed Battling Two Alarm Blaze

    Courtesy of ABC7

A firefighter was killed battling a second-alarm fire in New Brunswick, N.J. Friday morning.

Deputy Chief Jim DeHurn died fighting the flames inside the home at 50 Lee Avenue just after 3 a.m. DeHurn, a 20 year veteran, rushed into the burning building when the blaze broke out.

While he was inside, a release of gas from a propane tank inside the house caused the fire to flash. DeHurn was severely burned and pronounced dead.

No other firefighters were seriously injured and the residents of the home were safely evacuated.

On behalf of Asbury Park, NJ IAFF Local 384 I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Brother DeHurn and the brothers of the New Brunswick Fire Department.

I work in New Brunswick and am a Vollie in Piscataway. When I first heard the news it hit me pretty hard since I'm still in Academy; this hit close to home. My thoughts and prayers go out to Chief D'Huron's Family and the Brothers and Sisters of the NBFD.

As a boy growing up in New Brunswick, my best friends father was a firefighter for NBFD. This is the first time in my lifetime that NBFD has had a LODD. My heart goes out to his family and brother Fire Fighters.

My condolences to the New Brunswick Fire Department and the friends and family of Deputy Chief DeHurn. May you all find peace and strength during this difficult time.

The NBFD is grossly undermanned. I used to work EMS there. I saw some absolutely heroic and superhuman feats performed by this FD. This is one of the truly good FD's in NJ.

My prayers are with the Chief's family and colleagues in the NBFD.

On behalf of the Hopewell fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit, as well as the Princeton Boro Fire Safety Bureau, I send my condolances to Jimmy's family, both at home and on the job. Having grow up in New Brunswick, I can say there is no more professional Dept. around, and Jimmy was a big part of that. Jimmy, I can see you now, outside the scene, with your cigar planted firmly in your mouth, observing your guys.

Jimmy D, from now on, whenever, I look up in the nights sky, and look at the moon, I'll think of you. May the road rise up to meet you.

Keep your spirts up, Keano and the other guys at NBFD!
