The town I work for in the Chicago area has a regional postal distribution center that is currently installing a bio hazard detection system. Has anyone out there been comfronted with this if so please let me know. Lots of questions. Thanks, Tom.

The bio detection system is probably the one that Smiths had on display during one of the tours at the IAFC hazmat conference. The box is specifically designed to fit in the mail sorting equipment. They blow air through the mail to collect particulates, and then do a PCR analysis of the material, to look for anthrax (and possibly other pathogen) DNA. The analysis technique is the same basic technology as their Bioseeq instrument.
