    Seatbelts people. Seatbelts.

I hope he makes a fast recovery. Sounds like all parties involved were pretty lucky.

This is from Chief Phill Jolley of the Pelham-Batesville FD. He has been sending me updates on the FF's since the accident.

Grant, May can send you a pic of the guys Monday. The seat belt story is one of those that you hear about, both guys had put on their seatbelts when leaving the station, enroute Mike had taken his off so he could reach the mapbook that had slid back on the doghouse. After confirming the location, he was just about to put the book up when he felt the truck drop off the road. He looked up saw the tree coming and dove toward the drivers side. I am not sure the outcome would have been as good in this case had he been belted in the seat. Phill

May you wonder what would have happened "IF" he had kept the belt on. By no means am I advocating no seat belts... just making a reply to NMFIRE. I am in favor of seatbelt use! Just wanted to clear that up!

Just guessing, but from the pics, if he was in his seat and belted in..it woulda been UG-LY. One of those flukes, God was watching and he did OK.

Grant, pass on my thoughts if you get the chance.

The brother was released from the hospital today at 3:30. He has a nasty cut on his head and some scrapes and bruises. Other than that... he is going to be ok.

I will pass on the info Dave... call me with the number I emailed you about those items.

It's interesting- over here there has been a big debate going over the clearances required along side roads for trees to be removed so as to try and pervent cars, etc hitting them when they run off the road. (Hotly debated amongst the tree hugging hippies and the local Councils and other government authorities, etc)

These pix show in very graphic details why it should happen...
