Exclamation Need Help w/ Cairns N5A

I know this is a long shot...but...let me start with my story. I bought a Cairns N5A @ the New Jersey State Firemen's Convention. When I got home I realized the helmet didn't fit me all that well. What I was wondering is if anyone has a large sized N5A that is is new or near-new that they would be willing to trade for a brand new medium sized N5A. The color of my helmet is black and it has Bourkes. The color of the helmet I am looking for does not matter, as I can get it painted. Anyone who can help me out or knows of a way I can exchange my helmet for a larger size please contact me @ sta224ffemt@hotmail.com. Thank you!

ummm, you didn't try it on before you spent $300+ on it?

If you are looking to sell it, i would suggest ebay. then take the money you make and put it toward a new leather.

Have you tried contacting the vendor to do an even exchange?

    Default Leather New Yorker

No guarantee, but call Don Colarusso @ All Hands Fire Equipment (732) 681-1009. Medium is the most popular of sizes, since it has an adjustable ratchet. If you require a Large, then you have a big pumpkin on the top of your neck like I do. If anyone is able to do a straight trade for you, it will be All Hands Fire. If he can't do it, send me an e-mail, at: jlk0530@hotmail.com. I will buy it from you and set you up with a large.

Default On the subject of leather . . .

I have something of a mellon-head requiring a large lid (for the abundance of gray matter ). Problem is, it is loose side-to-side, but still too tight fore and aft.

The foam thingies take care of the side-to-side fit, but can anything be done to stretch the longer dimension 1/8 inch or so? I'm hoping there's an old-timer's solution to the problem. If there isn't, it may just have to stay on the shelf.

Yeah, what Bou says. Or if you prefer leather, a Phenix TL2.

If you look at where the ratchet system attaches inside the helmet, there are a couple of adjustments that you can do there. You may have to take off the foam inserts you put in. Inside you can see how to adjust it. The little white things that hold it are a pain, but if you take some needle nose plirers, and push the two side togeather, they are pretty easy to get out.

    Default Leather Head

Hey 224FFEMT, any luck exchanging the helmet ? There is alot of other talk going on here, but no status as to your predicament. My offer still stands if All Hands can't help.
