where to begin!?

i graduated college back in june with a BA in psychology. i'm currently working a full time job that i picked up quick to pay the bills. i am interested in becoming a firefighter and was wondering what steps i need to take. i live in rancho cucamonga, ca (southern california).

do you need to be a certified emt to be a firefighter?
is there a school you get sent to like the sheriff dept?
if there is a school, do you get pay while you are in school?
