OK...RANT ON
There is a new way to show support for your country. At our local 7-11, 24-hour convience store (similiar to circle K, and Stewarts), there are these maganic ribbons for sale. The come in two different sizes with a varity of differnent "themes". We have the plain yellow, American flag ribbons, statue of libery ribbons, etc...
Now while I admire our renewed public display of support, which I have noticed has faded since 9/11, why are these ribbons only for sale at these 7-11 stores. Where is the money going? Where did these things come from?
I guess my feelings are two fold. I'm happy to see people are willing to part with a few dollars to show their support, on teh other side where is this money going and who is profiting from this.
RANT OFF
For me, I fly the American Flag in front of my house 24x7x365!

I too, fly the American Flag 24/7, regardless what the homeowners association says. I fought for the right to fly it and I will, no matter what others may say.

I serve my country and my community, I appriciate the flying flags and the ribbons of support, but I don't know what more I can do to show my support other then joining back up, but the wife won't allow that anymore.

Well I have an American Flag flying from a flag pole and I had to put a lock on it after a string of steals. Use to also have 2 huge yellow ribbons on the porch that my wife made but they have also been taken. Now I just stick with the American Flag and the Starry Plough Flag beneath Old Glory.
Can anyone answer this though. If I am a disgrace can I still fly the American Flag????I.A.C.O.J IRISH TATTOOED-HOOLIGAN

In reality I do indeed have one. I have a very large patch on the back of my riding coat that has the IAFF logo with an American and a Canadian flag crossed bbehind it. Besides I see enough of them when I look across the river into Canada. Does that count????

Multiple stores in my area (hardware stores, gift shops, antique shops, pizza joints, etc) have these for sale. No idea where the money goes.why are these ribbons only for sale at these 7-11 stores"This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?

Instead of meaningless gestures of flying flags I participate in the USO's Phone Home Program and give some unsuspecting troop the opportunity to call back to the states.
I believe that has far more impact and greater effect on troop morale than a flag being flown half way around the world that only a few see and certainly none of the troops stationed in Iraq.Politics is like driving. To go forward select "D", to go backward select "R."

Since when has flying the flag been a "meaningless" gesture. Flying the flag of our nation is a statement maker. It states this is our nation. There is absolutely nothing meaningless about having the stars and stripes fly high over my own home.
Not that its any of your business, but I also have donated money to the USO.

BTW. I have a US flag sticker on my car. And it is the only sticker I have on my car.Politics is like driving. To go forward select "D", to go backward select "R."

I will concede that it is fairly easy to "just fly a flag", I also believe that putting your money where your mouth is essential as well. I will never say that flying the United States flag is meaningless.Originally posted by scfire86

The United States flag is also the only sticker my car has as well, I put it on after I removed my IAFF emblem.
