Exclamation Riots have broke out in Upper Manhattan

Companies are responding to numerous rubbish, auto fires in Harlem, Washington Heights, Inwood & the South Bronx.

Numerous shots fired in area. NYPD is reporting riots have broke out.

Ladder Co. 45 was pellted by bottles thrown from civilians at one box.

Many companies are letting the fires burn as there are large groups of rowdy people keeping them from the area.

Companies are traveling fire to fire extinguishing what they can.

Now a box in Little Italy reporting rubbish extending to scafolding on a building.

Screw it. Rioters want to hit our brothers?

Run the bastards over. Hit em with a line. They'll think so (well maybe the wont think..) when they need help and there is none available.

EDIT: Okay, so maybe they can't run them over, but I see no reason why NYPD can't use a 2.5" smoothbore to send rioting people back a bit.

I'd rather just let them burn their own crap down. Let them kill themselves economically by burning down the local shops.

But that's another strange one to me. Here in Canada, we only riot when we WIN something.

Very strange, this recall the events of years '70.
There have to be a reason somewhere, for the riots.

ummm, if I had to take a guess (and I'm just grasping at thin air here), I would say it was because the new york yankess lost to the boston red sox in game 7 of the ALCS

For those international members that don't know, the riots were a result of the New York Yankees losing Game 7 to the Boston Red Sox, advancing the Sox to the World Series.

DRParasite, the sarcasm is not called for in this case ... if you took the time to read the posts carefully and then engaged your brain by glancing at the location and realizing they are International members who may not know OR care about the Major League Baseball playoffs in the U. S. of A. maybe you wouldn't make such an asinine remark

Lets see burn your city down because your BASBALL team lost, then attack your city's protectors. The remark I feel was totally appropriate for the issue at hand.

But then again the Sox fans were just as dumb to be burning their own cars and traching their own city in celebration. At least the damn Yankee fans had something to be ****ed about.

Things seem to be fine now anyhow. Didn't hear of any firefighters or EMS actually getting seriously hurt in the stupid celebrations.

So where is all this multi million dollar super duper homeland security equipment and what is doing for ya?

I postualte this question.....if the NYPD allows a riot over a baseball game to continue and has trouble containing it a part of the city, how could you contain another 9/11 or keep order in a BIO/CHEM attack when the whole city is going bannas and everyone thinks there going to die anyway?

Im going to get the high horses ****ed off but its a honest question.

Lets get this right. The Watts section of LA was burnt down because of some young men got arrested! A lot of the Bronx was burnt because of the slumlords didn't keep up the property. A lot of fires are set in Detroit for devils night around Halloween. SO, Why shouldn't the fans of the yankess not react any different? It is their way to express their unhappiness with the Yankees.

    Wow, stay safe guys.

    That is just unreal.

I was just in Manhattan/little Italy just 2.5 weeks ago.

Sounds wierd, but I REALY wish I would have been there for the riots, you just dont see that stuff around where I am from.

Sort of like when I go to California I hope for an earthquake, just to see what ones like.

Sorry about the destruction, what a bunch of jerks, over a stupid game.

    Exclamation for Samson

As someone with over 30 years experience in training for and dealing with civil disturbances (the correct term here as riots are in prisons), the last thing you should do is try to go to one. The more people, the more problem.

It is bad enough that emergency workers have to be exposed. Don't add to the problem.

My heart goes out to the FDNY who has to work in these conditions. Pray for a good heavy and cold rain. It's the best tool there is to shut down these things.

I watched the L.A. riots from the Rodney King deal go down, those people deserved a drink from the firehose too. Free speech or not, nobody has the right to hurt other people or their property like that.

From one of the biggest Yankee fans on here, if these disturbances were a reaction to the Yankees loss (or the Red Sox win, whatever the case may be), this is just another embarrasment in the total picture. There is NEVER an excuse for this type of behavior.

And let me tell ya, dude, I hope that you are kidding when you say that you wish you were there. I was in the bleahcers in 1976 when Chambliss hit his HR in the ninth to win the ACLS from the Royals. The fans damn near tore Yankee Stadium down that night, That was one scary place to be. Not anything I would like to see again.

BTW, there is not usually a spectator seating area at a riot. They don't usually issue sideline passes. If you are there, the cops assume you are a participant. You get treated like a participant.

    Jesus...are they turning into Brits....
I thought Rioting was a byword for British Football (sorry, soccer) I thought it was just us with our crazy war like Island mentality who liked to riot for any reason... Winning sports, losing sports, increase in taxes, someone getting arrested....etc...etc...

Seriously though this is a major problem in the UK, crews are facing this sort of disorder in Cities all over this country. There have been numerous attacks on Fire Crews with on-Board Cameras and Riot shields a regular fixture on many Fire Trucks...

Although the 'super riots' of the 80's in places such as Brixton & Tottenham in London, Moss side in Manchester, Toxteth in Liverpool that went on for days and destroyed entire neighbourhoods haven't happenned for a while, smaller gang fights that run from street to street, burning and breaking stuff up happen on a frighteningly regular basis. Apart from the odd Soccer riot, there has been a massive rise in Roiting by Muslim Gangs in our cities. They burn out churches and Pubs... anything that is deemed 'Western' but no one will grab the bull by the horns and deal with it....wringing their hands instead worrying about accusations of Racism or breaching of Human rights!!!

My article in the memberzone Here deals with the issue and what can be done to assist or protect the crews. We are only a couple of weeks off of our bonfire season that coincides with a major islamic festival...this is a good reason to have a riot. My own Station last year had an additional 2 Pumps (Engine co's) posted in to deal with the high number of incidents on Nov th (Bonfire night) even then the 4 Pumps were not enough to deal with the 50 odd incidents dealt with between 4pm and midnight. with Crews from 9 different Stations on our ground at one point.

Good luck to all of you over there and pray this was a one off....also spare your UK Brothers & Sisters a thought on November 5th and the weekends either side. I am on duty both weekends so that'll be all good.

Woman injured in celebration outside Fenway dies
    By Associated Press
    Thursday, October 21, 2004

BOSTON - A 21-year-old college student died Thursday from injuries she received as police tried to subdue the rowdy crowd outside Fenway Park following the Red Sox's series-clinching win over the Yankees, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Victoria Snelgrove, an Emerson College journalism major from Bridgewater, was injured on Landsdowne Street early Thursday morning as fans poured out of bars and into the streets around Kenmore Square after the final out in Boston's 10-3 win at Yankee Stadium, authorities said.

A spokeswoman for Brigham and Women's Hospital said Snelgrove died there at 12:50 p.m.

Mayor Tom Menino told WBZ-AM that Snelgrove was hit in the head by a ``non-lethal weapon,'' but he did not elaborate. Menino did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press Thursday afternoon.

David Procopio, a spokesman for the Suffolk district attorney, said the office is investigating the incident.

``One factor that is being investigated is whether her injuries were sustained in any way during crowd control measures,'' Procopio said. ``That has not been confirmed or determined yet.''

Sixteen people were injured in all, including a police officer whose wounds were not severe, a police spokeswoman said.

Several small fires were set, fireworks shot into the sky, a trash can was thrown at a fast-food restaurant sign and numerous fights broke out.

Boston police reported eight arrests in the neighborhood, mostly for disorderly conduct, though one arrest was reported for assault and battery on a police officer.

David Rosen, a spokesman for Emerson College, said school officials were unsure how Snelgrove died and that the hospital did not provide details of her injuries.

``There are several different accounts of how it happened,'' he said. ``I'm sure the police and the city will conduct a full investigation, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how it happened. It's a great personal tragedy for this individual, her family and her many friends here at the college. We'll mourn her death no matter how it happened.''

Rosen said a memorial service was being planned and grief counselors would be on hand to help students deal with Snelgrove's death.

Students also gathered on college campuses around the region following the game.

About 5,000 people flooded the Southwest residential hall complex at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. UMass Sgt. David White said 29 people were arrested. One UMass police officer was injured while making an arrest.

At UMass-Dartmouth, about 2,000 people were dispersed by police using stun grenades and several arrests were made.

In New Hampshire, police made about 15 arrests as crowds got out of hand near Plymouth State University. Police said crowds swarmed the campus and surrounding neighborhoods.

And at the University of Vermont, more than 1,000 people gathered, setting fires, toppling light poles and fences and tipping a van on its side. No injuries were reported.

Rioters should be shot. Period. We've gotten way too soft in this country. No way should throwing rocks at first responders be tolerated.

As to why they're rioting-probably time for some new appliances and other merchandise.

Please stay safe, FDNY and NYPD.
