I gotta ask a question that's been bothering me lately. What do other depts. offer their "employees", namely volunteer or POC, in case they get injured on the job? I know there's workers comp, but in the case of a lot of us, me included, that are self employed, if we can't work, we don't make any money. Our dept. has a rather meaningless accident policy that wouldn't even make a car payment if somebody got laid up for a while. Do other depts. do any better?

Jack, we only offer worker's comp, also. But my understanding is that our WC pays your wages if you're laid up, same as your FT employer would. Something worth checking into, that's for sure.....

You're probably right but if you're self employed, it's pretty hard to get WC to pay much of anything. I don't know that personally, but I've heard stories about it. Kind of got me worried.Originally posted by jaybird210

Jack, I can see where that would be a problem. The WC insurance carrier would probably make you do a boat-load of documenting your income, i.e. where it comes from, how seasonal is it, how consistant is it, etc., etc., etc. What a pain in the arse. Get them tightwads to hire you full time.
