Wet moping, is when you actually have water to mop up the fire. Mop up is extinguishing all burning material, and trying to remove all the heat from the fire. It sure makes things go a lot faster. You will also hear people refer to heli-moping, when you have a helicopter do water drops after the fire is contained, just for the purpose of mopping up. Most pilots get very upset when someone tries to use them for mopup.

I have directed air drops from our Huey on to areas of extensive groundfire....only because the laying of hoselines was impractical or impossible.Proudly serving as the IACOJ Minister of Information & Propoganda!

I know we have heli moped before, it depends on the situation. I worked for the park service this year where you can't drive off road, and there were two roads in the park. We did some helimoping, and a lot of dry mop.
