76-year-old in critical condition after accident

Video News Report:
A 76-year-old Orem man on his way to a memorial service for his grandson was critically injured Friday night while crossing University Avenue with his wife near the mouth of Provo Canyon.
Robert Dove was taken by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center after he was hit by a pickup truck at approximately 6 p. m. Dove suffered head injuries and was unconscious at the scene.
Dove and his wife had parked their car on the westbound side of University Avenue/State Road 189 just above Murdock Dam and were trying to cross the road to meet family members who had parked on the eastbound side of the highway, said Officer Derek Jensen of the Utah Highway Patrol.
The family was gathering to memorialize an accident nine months ago that killed Dove's grandson, according to police. The grandson had been driving home from work at Sundance when he crashed on a curve above the location of Friday's accident.
University Avenue was shut down in both directions for about 30 minutes while crews worked on Dove until the medical helicopter landed. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. No citations were issued.
