I was doing the "vehicle shuffle" in the driveway this morning when an elderly woman pulled into the driveway after I backed the Mustang into the garage. SHe said that she heard that I detail cars on the side, and asked me how much would I charge to clean the inside of her windshield and rear window, as they were hazy and that she could not easily reach in to do them because of her arthritis. I told her that I would do it for her for free and went to grab my glass cleaner and a roll of paper towels and that I would do her windows inside and out.
I started cleaning the windows and she said to me "you know, it's still true.. we are still family... my late husband retired from the FDNY and he told me that if I ever needed anything to ask a firefighter..."
Her late husband was assigned to an engine company in the Rockaway section of Queens and did 20 years on the job. They moved to Marlborough to be closer to their children, her husband passed away shortly after they moved here. I didn't get her name, but helping one of our own sure helped to make my day!![]()

"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

Kia Kaha
Cap, style and grace as always. I see the image of her driving away a lot closer to her husband in her heart.

What makes this all the more special is that he would have done the same for this lady if she was "family" or not.
You're a good man, Cap.
