I am a volunteer FF and wellness coordinator for our city's FD. We are looking to update our SCBA test...the test/drill the dept is currently using is dated and doesn't provide useful and consistent information. We are hoping to incorporate more of a "health and fitness" feel to our test...we currently have started a wellness program for the dept.
WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY IDEAS OF ANY TESTS THAT ARE BEING DONE! I imagine that there are some good tests out there that are easy to do, and provide good data for the dept. and crews.
Thanks!

Do you have a local Occupational Health Center (usually run out of a hospital or other medical operation) that can provide annual pulminary analysis for your members? That is a good place to start.

Here are a few ideas, depending on exactly what you are looking to test....
> Search Course - tests orientation and search skills.
> Entanglement course -tests ability for 2 firefighters to work as
a team dis-entangleing self/each other during a search.
> Hose Stretch course - tests fiefighters ability to stretch a line
through obstacles, up stairs, etc.
> Fitness Course - tests firefighters endurance while performing
tasks. Tasks may include stair climb. hose stretch, object striking
with an axe or sledge, victim drag, equipment carry, etc.
That would be an excellent one if your primary goal is to measure
wellness/fitness.
> RIT course - tests ability to carry designated equiopment in and
remove victim (firefighter)
These have worked for me in the past.
