*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

LOS ANGELES, CA:
FATALITY FIRE:

On Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at 2005 hours (8:05 p.m.), four companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, one Battalion Officer Command Team, one LAFD Rescue Ambulance, and three Arson Units, under the direction of Battalion Commander Joe Castro, responded to a reported Structure Fire at 2541 S. 13th Avenue in the Jefferson Park area. First units on the scene reported what appeared to be a fire in the rear of a single-family dwelling. Upon further investigation by firefighters it was determined that a 16’ travel trailer was well involved with fire. Firefighters using handlines aggressively attacked the fire extinguishing it seventeen minutes. During the initial search and rescue phase of the incident, the body of a sixty-two year old female was located in the trailer and declared dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported and there was no damage to the single-family dwelling. The cause of the fire is listed as under investigation and fire damage is estimated at $2,500.00. ($1,500 trailer and $1,000 contents)

The Chicago Firefighter's Best Friend

"The Chicago Firefighter’s Best Friend" will be the first book to document the role and tradition of Chicago firedogs through real life stories, history, and photography. It will appeal to firefighters, dog lovers, and Chicagoans. We hope to have over 200 pictures and at least 100 firedog narratives assessing the important role dogs have played and continue to play in Chicago firehouses. A percentage of the proceeds generated from book sales will be donated to a charitable organization which assists victims of fires.
