    I think this was a training exersice gone wrong. VERY wrong. Amazingly the guy lived to tell about it.

    Hmmmm...what else could a flare gun be used for - OH YEAH!!!

    I noticed he had his full body yellow PFD and cylindrical Anchor on - thats good! Oh wait water ....rock.......blub blub!

    What were they thinking?

    Not to hijack, but...
    As far as sinking in turnout gear and SCBA... you won't. At least you won't sink for a while. And it's very easy to remain afloat if you start to go under. I try to address this everytime it comes up in posts.

    You DO lose some mobility. And that can make it very dangerous around MOVING water. Simply falling into calm water though... you won't sink like a rock. Of course, we always wear PFD's in addition to gear just to be safe around non-moving water.

    Thanks for the reminder Resq14 - totally forgot that you dont lose bouancy right away - however the point here is the situation was not critical - nobody was in jeoprady (except the FF)- proper PPE should be used. Bouancy in turnout gear is great if you fall into a cellar or elevator shaft - pool etc. but if you have the time use the right gear for the job. (If you dont have time make the time!)
