    Question Retractable cords (keepers)

I have run across here and there these retractable cords on TICs. I can't seem to locate who makes them. I have seen the light duty ones for mikes and other small tools but I can't find the heavy duty ones for thermal imaging cameras. I saw a few being used with the LAFD on the Bullards they were testing. I thought that they where made by Bullard but I saw a picture of one on a MSA. Anyone know?

I believe Hammerhead Industries makes these, and TIC manufacturers just throw their names on them.

You can get these from a ton of places, probably for far less than the TIC company will charge you. Just pay attention to the TYPE of lanyard you get... some lock, some don't... some are heavy duty, some are light duty... make sure you get the correct attachment choice for your gear (pin, delrin buckle, clip, etc), and make sure the weight of your TIC is within the weight rating of the lanyard. You don't want to fight the lanyard to use the TIC... it should just slightly overcome the weight of the TIC and gently retract. Otherwise, you're gonna be fighting it the whole time you use it.

I know the Bullard T3 has a Gearkeeper option... I'm not sure which model Gearkeeper it is though... the Bullard T3 weight is listed at just over 2.5lbs with battery. It's a nice way to use a TIC.
