Flat webbing vs Tubular webbing

A little help please.

Which would grip a charged hand line better flat or tubular.

Looking to purchase webbing for members to carry for rescue and hose handling.:confused:

1" tubular is rated at 6000lbs, tied in a loop with a water knot it is rated at 90000 lbs, providing the 16/1 safety factor used for rescue work.

Go with the heavier tubular even if not using it for rescue, then you have the strength for whatever you might encounter. I've always used it for hose work and have never had it slip.

Flat is stronger, but for this application it doesn't matter.
Tubular hold knots better, Overall for this application I would use tubular.
About a year ago we tossed our hose rope tools for webbing and so webbing was available for rescue on the fireground.
It has worked OK, but I would have both webbing and a rope hose tool available. The hook comes in handy.

Ooops, my mistake. I should have said it as 4000, looped 6000, then you can double that for anchors/etc. and be over the 9000lbs preferred for 16/1 factor.

Tubular is much easier for knotting, particulary getting the water knots back out after significant tightening by "a good rubbing."
