    Default Streamlight 20xp=led

Last night one of our new Steamlight 20XP=LED flashlights experienced a moment. An officer took it to the car and moments later he smelled smoke. Turned on the interior lights in the car and found smoke coming from around the switch on the flashlight. He took the light out of the car and quickly removed the base to allow the battery stick to come out. The top of the stick has a fair amount of charring and what appears to be a thick carbon residue. The body of the flashlight seems to be in tact, but it smells like it is cooked as well.

This is a plastic cased flashlight much like the SL-20, but it also has 3 LED lamps built into it. After calling Streamlight and sitting on HOLD for a half hour, I gave up. Has anyone else had this happen to their light?

    Default SL-20XP/LED

We haven't had a problem with ours yet. But I will be keeping a very close eye on them from now on. We have 6 mounted in our Special Service, 1 mounted in my POV and 1 I have in my house.

Was the light in a charger in the car?
I know that you are only supposed to use the chargers that are specifically made for that light.

Nope... the charger is in the station, so he had just removed it from the charger (the grey one that came with the light) and took it to the car. As far as I can tell, there was nothing improper in the handling of the light. It hasn't been used much and has had no rough treatment.

Nope... unless it came that way from the factory. We used it all summer long with no problems, so we have to assume it was installed properly. According to the arrows on the battery stick, it was installed correctly.

Haven't had a chance to try calling them again... I plan to do that Monday. I see there is another string posted concerning a different streamlight. Hmmmmmmm....
