*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

LOS ANGELES, CA:
GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Thursday, January 20, 2005, at 2342 hours (11:42 p.m. PST), fourteen companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, one Assistant Chief Officer Command Team, two Battalion Officer Command Team, one Battalion EMS Supervisor, two LAFD Rescue Ambulances, seven fire units from Culver City Fire Department, and other Fire Department resources, under a Unified Command of Culver City Fire Department and Los Angeles Fire Department Assistant Chief John D. Badgett, responded to a Greater Alarm structure fire at 13376 West Washington Boulevard in the Venice area. First units on the scene reported a two-story mini-mall with fire and heavy smoke showing from one unit on the second floor. Firefighters using handlines aggressively attacked the fire in “Camp Technique”, an exercise facility and confined the fire to the one unit with some fire spread to one other business (Film Boats) via a common attic. During firefighting operations a portion of the roof collapsed with no injuries reported. The fire was extinguished in approximately fifty-three minutes. Two other businesses on the second floor sustained smoke damage and businesses on the first floor sustained water damage. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is listed as under investigation. Fire damage is estimated at $800,000 ($400,000 structure and $400,000 contents).
