My department is currently looking to purchase a large skid-type wildland truck. Due to our grant process, it must have the following:
All wheel drive
500 gallons of water
We decided it should also have a CAFS system in addition to other things.
We are looking at the Chevy/GMC 5500 4-door chassis. In the AWD version the GVW is 19,500.
Can anyone share any experiences with skid type CAFS units?

We've had good luck with Snuffer. We run a 45cfm/130gpm pump on the back of a F550, with 300gals water and 20gals foam.

My department is looking at something much the same as what you are. As for the CAFS unit I would go Waterous or Darley (my opinion). I have researched several brands of self-contained CAFS units to a component level and if my department purchases, it would likely be one of those two. Although, there are several others to look at: Snuffer, Mertz, CET, Robwin...and some I am sure that I missed. You may also want to look at some of the units that are comming out with the air pump being run off of the truck engine.
