PHILADELPHIA, PA:
Aircraft Carrier Fire


At approx. 10:30 Hours on 25 January 2005, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire/Rescue Services, Philadelphia District responded to a phone reports of a unknown type fire aboard the Air Craft Carrier America. Car #2, Engine #1 and Engine #2 responded. Inactive fleet supervisor reported to Car #2 and stated that there was a fire in the shaft alley located at 7-175-3-E. E-2 Command arrived at frame 175 on the 2nd deck and reported medium to heavy smoke on the 2nd deck and smoke coming from the trunk leading to the shaft alley on the 7th deck. Philadelphia Fire Dept. arrived and Car #2 initiated a unified command and formed "America Command". Navy E-1, E-2 crews and PFD Battalion #1 and E-49 crew made entry to the space at 7-175-3-E and found the fire to be in the bilge.

The fire was extinguished using a 1 3/4 water line and approx. 150 gallons of water. The fire was contained to the space. The fire was placed under control at 11:46 hours with the last PFD and Navy
Unit leaving the Ship at 12:43 hours.

Units responding: Navy Car 2, Eng 1, Eng 2; Phila Fire Dept. E-49, E-53, E-13, E-1, E-10, L-27, L-19, R-1, Marine 2, Medic 14, Air Unit 1, Batt 1 & 4, Dep 1, FM-1.

1961 - Allenstown (Suncook) NH - Fire - Ferry Street - Large barn with 40 tons of hay and farm equipment destroyed by fire - Nearby structures threatened but were protected, aided by winds blowing in a direction favoring the effort - One of those buildings housed three race horses - Afternoon fire fought in below zero degrees Fahrenheit temperatures

1994 - Concord - NH - 7th Alarm - North State Street (US Rte 3) - NH State Prison - Warehouse fire, started by smoking materials - Building fully involved

1995 - Manchester - NH - 4th Alarm - 407 Belmont Street - 3 StyWdFrm 7 unit occupied apartment building - Winds of 15 mph sustained, gusts to 25 mph

1998 - Hart's Location - NH - MVA Fatal - 7-year-old boy died after his father accidentally backed a pick-up truck while plowing the driveway - Boy slipped under the rear wheel and died later in day

1999 - Acworth - NH - Working Fire - Cole Pond Road - House fire Jan 25, 1999 - Lowell - MA - 3rd Alarm - Box 15 - Adams @ Suffolk - ( 2.5 Story Wood Frame's
