Yeah i was wondering how easy it is to make a career in firefighting, im 17 and currently an EMT in conneticut also im part of a volunteer FD and plan on taking Fire 1 in the summer. I plan on going to a 4 year school and majoring in fire science so my question is how easy is it to make it in a big paid FD such as new york or any other paid service that is pretty busy with those kind of credentials and expierence...thanks

Getting onto the FDNY in New York City is just a matter of scoring high enough on the open competitive test and staying out of trouble, not being crazy, being physically healthy, etc. Certifications mean nothing. Without NYC residency, military experience or the legacy credit, you'd have quite a wait though.
FDNY Class 1 of 05.
We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training.

Get your parent killed in the line of duty with PAPD/NYPD/FDNY, not a credit that I would want.Originally posted by DEMS11387
