Fireman use snowballs to quench flames
Sibiu - Romanian firefighters managed to put out a fire in an apartment by throwing snowballs through the window.
They used snowballs because they could not got their fire engines close enough to the building in Sibiu.
Fire crews arrived within minutes of the alarm being raised by neighbours of the elderly woman who lived in the apartment.
But icy roads prevented them from getting close enough to the building to use their hoses so they resorted to desperate measures.
Chief firefighter Florian Chioar told National newspaper: "We had to do something because our cars couldn't get near that building. So we used the snow and put out the fire in about 30 minutes."

Back when I was Chief, we got called to a car fire around the block from me. It was up against a garage. While waiting for the trucks to arrive, I used a snow shovel to shovel snow on the hood to help keep the flames down.
I'm wondering how many snowballs they must have thrown to knock out the fire."This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?

What kind of a fire did they put out with snow balls? A trash can? Seriously though, how do you extinguish a working apartment fire with snow balls? If the fire was that small that snow balls worked to put the fire out, one would think a water can or dry chem extinguisher would have done the job much easier. Anyway, just seems a bit strange that's all.

I also like that the Chief was named for St. Florian. You know what his Papa wanted him to be when he grew up."What makes a person run into a building others are running out of?...Character."- Dennis Smith
