Use of Explorers in Department
How does your department use the explorers and the post? How do you best utilize them and how would you like to see the post turn into in the future. Im am bringing this up to help brainstorm for the post im helping out with. We have just started back up the past few months and now trying to find a good direction to head in. Thanks for any input.
Explorers running at my station
Well, im the Junior Firefighter Captain/Explorer Firefighter Captain/Asst.Engineer for our new truck, anyway back to the subject at hand.
The Explorers at my station can run as long as they are back at the station 1 hour before curfew and cannot run calls if the call comes in within 45 min.s of the curvew however they can run any call EXCEPT Hazmat calls or calls during Severe Weather i.e tornado warnings and stuff. They can be at the station during the storm or hazmat call and assist other firefighters that are just getting off work and getting ready to head down to the call. Since i'm the explorer captain, i have only 4 explorers so every Tuesday I run a drill with them where equipmet is, how it runs, how to fuel them, put them back correctly stuff like that. But on the scene they CANNOT leave the truck unless told to by an officer. Usually I tell them to stay with the driver to assist him with equipment setup or equipment being taken off the truck so when everything's said and done, the driver knows what was taken off the truck. But off call wise. We are on standby at the place for fireworks where they are being displayed for emergency respone but the explorers can't go within 1000 Feet of the fireworks. They do parades, fireworks standby, tours, and the simple things around the station as well as working with me.
