LOS ANGELES, CA:
GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 1949 Hours (7:49 PM PST), six Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, one Battalion Chief Officer Command Team, EMS Captain Scott Gould, three LAFD Rescue Ambulances, one Hazardous Materials Squad, and one Water Tender under the direction of Assistant Chief Tony Varela responded to a Greater Alarm Structure Fire at 7800 North Yarmouth Avenue in the Reseda area. Firefighters arrived quickly to find a single family dwelling with heavy fire showing from one room. Firefighters dealt with a myriad of obstacles including forcible entry, wires down in the alley behind the structure, exposures to the North and limited water pressure in surrounding hydrants due to a water main break earlier in the day. Water Tender 88 was summoned to the scene for support. Despite these seaming impediments, it took approximately 45 firefighters just 33 minutes to extinguish the flames. A civilian, met by firefighters as they arrived at the scene, suffered minor burns to his ears and neck, as well as minor smoke inhalation and was transported to Northridge Hospital. Meanwhile, during fire ground operations, one firefighter/paramedic suffered minor burns to his ears only and was transported to Sherman Oaks Hospital, where he was placed off duty. No other injuries were reported. Monetary loss from the fire is reported to be $450.000 ($300.000 structure and $150,000 content). The cause is determined to be accidental, and is attributed to the malfunction of a bedroom lamp.
