GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE:


On Friday, February 18, 2005, at 0415 hours (4:15 a.m. P.S.T), eleven companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, one Assistant Chief Officer Command Team, three Battalion Chief Officer Command Teams, one Hazmat Squad, two LAFD Rescue Ambulances, Emergency Air, and one Arson unit, under the direction of Battalion Commander Patrick M. Shanley, responded to a Greater Alarm Structure Fire at 11669 West Sherman Way in the North Hollywood area. First units on the scene reported a one story, 75’x100’ commercial building with fire and heavy smoke showing. Firefighters using handlines aggressively attacked the fire while simultaneously conducting ventilations and search and rescue operations. The fire was confined to the kitchen area “Mango Tango” a restaurant/dance hall and extinguished in approximately twenty-four minutes. The fire threatened no other structures and no injuries were reported. The cause of he fire is listed as under investigation and fire damage is estimated at approximately $$225,000. ($175,000 structure and $50,000 contents)

SEVERE FLOODING IN THE SUNLAND AREA:


On Friday, February 18, 2005 at 1512 Hours (3:12 PM PST), nine Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, one Battalion Chief Officer Command Team, two EMS Captains, three LAFD Rescue Ambulances, Two Swift Water Rescue Teams, two Dozers, and a myriad of other LAFD equipment, under the direction of Assistant Chief Tony Varela, known as “Foothill IC” responded to the Sunland area for severe flooding conditions. A Command Post was established at Fire Station 24, located at 9411 Wentworth Avenue. Areas of concern included, but were not limited to, Foothill Blvd. at the Tujunga Wash and the Arizona Crossing, with four houses threatened by flooding at Oro Vista Avenue. In an effort to support area residents who may have been displaced from their homes, Los Angeles Fire Department in conjunction with the American Red Cross, established a meeting place at the nearby Sunland Community Center located at 8640 Fenwick Street. The pro-active approach taken by the LAFD proved to be a success as no injuries were reported. Estimated damage and dollar loss is still being tabulated at this time.

Fatal Accident


Racine Co Sheriff 's Dept dispatched Wind Lake Fire & Rescue for a report of a PI accident at the intersection of Hwy K & N Britton Rd. Before Wind Lake rescue was on scene; deputies reported a possible fatality in one of the vehicles. When rescue got on scene they called for Flight for Life. 2 paitent's; one fatal. the second paitent was extricated from a pick-up truck and was transfered to Wind Lake rescue waiting the arrivial of Flight For Life. The paitent was then flown to Milwaukee trauma center. The paitent that was trapped in the pick-up took about 15 minutes to be extricated. the accident is still under investigation. Wind Lake Fire remained on scene for about 1-1/2 hours.

House fire


At around 0145 hrs, Trevor Fire, Salem fire & Wilmont Fire was dispatched to the 28500 blk of 108th St.for a report of a house fire. First rig on scene reported a working house fire. Every one got out safely. The fire was knoked down in about 30 minutes. The Antioch fire Investigators were called to the scene. Rehab was not called for this fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
