Starting a Fire Department
I'm a full time firefighter for Hunter Army Airfield, and I live about 12 miles outside of Metter, GA. As of now, there is no fire protecton in the area. Before I went into the Army in 2000, there was a small volunteer fire department here, but there never was a station, and the tanker and pumper have since "disappeared". Several people have asked about trying to start the department up again, and I was wondering what the best routes were to take to get support, and equipment, as I expect little to no support from the county Gov't. Any advice would be appreciated.

Another idea is to contact the state Fire Marshal and see if they have any grant programs available. Also try to state Dept. of forestry. Many times they can "loan" vehicles to be used in fire ops. also contact the guys from Silver City FD in Silver City, OK. They have done a great job starting from scratch. http://www.cimtel.net/~killerb/Jeremy Culver
