I'm a full time firefighter for Hunter Army Airfield, and I live about 12 miles outside of Metter, GA. As of now, there is no fire protecton in the area. Before I went into the Army in 2000, there was a small volunteer fire department here, but there never was a station, and the tanker and pumper have since "disappeared". Several people have asked about trying to start the department up again, and I was wondering what the best routes were to take to get support, and equipment, as I expect little to no support from the county Gov't. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re-starting Fire Department
I would think your first step would be to find out who your local governing body would be. Whether that would be local or county body. This way you can attempt to get local funding. You then may want to contact the GA State Fire Academy and see what the process is that you would have to follow to restart the Fire Department.
