    Question Lost Honor

Hello all. I am looking for information about how to deal with a Chief who is unwilling to communicate at all with the firefighters. Any and all info would be appriciated. Thanks

    Stay Low, Stay Safe

P.s. I have removed the name of the person I am speaking of. My mistake for printing it here...

    Default Wow...

JHill...Just a small note to you. You posting that in a
national forum could make you liable. If this person sees
this, they could sue you if they can prove you wrote it.

    Just something to think about.

Well if you weren't in the Chief's bad books already - chances are you will be very shortly. Pretty dumb to post such a blatant question/view on here.

...and before you ask - YES I have done a Bloody SEARCH!

wow...it must be prety rough going in your dept to have to post that on national board. You are either incredibly stupid or incredibly stupid.

You know the old slang saying...Tellagraph, tellaphone, tellafireman...everyone knows someone who knows someone. I wouldn't be suprised if this post makes it back to your CFD.

    Red face

I think he/she is just plain dumb!!

Might as well took an ad in the local newspaper and posted the chief's name there!!

They will never learn except by what the judge has to say, and still then they will not be able to understand.

Stay Safe and Well Out There....

Management is making sure things are done right. Leadership is doing the right thing. The fire service needs alot more leaders and a lot less managers.

"Everyone goes home" is the mantra for the pussification of the modern, American fire service.

Comments made are my own. They do not represent the official position or opinion of the Fire Department or the City for which I am employed. In fact, they are normally exactly the opposite.

While I am obviosly not the most intelligent one here, I would hope that you might understand the pain I feel watching my department's name get dragged through the mud by our own Chief. Face to face conversations dont work, neither do meet and confer sessions. I don't know what else to do to help protect my brothers and sisters, as well as our community, from this man. My apologies for asking for help

There is nothing to say your sorry for, just edit this post out and adress the issue in the proper way. Bad mouting someone on the internet is wrong, no way around it. I've learned my lesson over the last year or so in the service and its a different world then anything else so take the time to get to know and never take it to the net.

OK, I edited the name out, however the issue still exists. I just need to find a way to deal with this man before my department implodes and we have nothing but people "just doing a job". The only place I ever wanted to work was for my hometown. I saw the professionalism, the honor and the pride that each member took in thier duties, and that just made me want to be a part of it more. Obviously things have changed. More and more people are leaving to find departments that have those qualities that we once held so highly. I am considering applying elsewhere as well. Just the thought of leaving makes me want to hit things, but with the way things are going now I am seeing less and less options. Any ideas?
Meet and confer is a joke, face to face conversations are even worse. If I wanted to be belittled and spoken down to, I would call up my old high school bully. At least then I could tell him where to go....

    Default Yo..

Ok, thanks for changing your first posting.

This is Bou and I live in California and near your
region. I tell you this so you can understand I have
been in your very same shoes before.

    There is my take...

#1. Launching a personal war against this person can
only damage you and your career.

#2. What ever this person is doing wrong, or you feel
is wrong- document, document, document. I have found in
the past, if someone is breaking the law, it eventually
catches up with them. (Bill Clinton, Martha, Rush, etc...)

    Default Lastly...

Also, I do have one question for you. By this person
"bringing down your department", does it involved adding
or converting from a volunteer FD to a combo or paid FD?

I ask this because if it does, I have to admit, I can not
side with you. I am not anti-volunteer, but more pro
    public safety protection.

YES, this is another subject all together and I dont
want a thread highjack, but just stating my feelings.

Thanks and keep the peace on this one, Bou
