Thumbs up Hey You East Coast Lobster Guys!

How did y'all hide this one for so long? LOL

Trip to the zoo proves too much for oversized 10-kilogram lobster

    Canadian Press March 4, 2005

PITTSBURGH (AP) - He survived two world wars and prohibition, but a trip to the zoo proved too much for a 10-kilogram lobster named Bubba.

The leviathan of a lobster died Wednesday afternoon at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, about a day after he was moved from Wholey's Market, said zoo spokeswoman Rachel Capp and fish market owner Bob Wholey. "They're very finicky. It could have been a change in the water. You have no idea," Wholey said. Bubba spent a week at the market after he was pulled from the waters off Nantucket, Mass.

He died in a quarantined area of the zoo's aquarium, where he was being checked to see if he was healthy enough to make a trip to an aquarium at a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum, Capp said.

Bubba will be examined to try to determine the cause of death - Capp and Wholey guessed it may have been the stress of being moved.

Based on how long it typically takes a lobster to reach eating size - about five to seven years to grow to a pound - some estimated Bubba was about 100 years old.

Marine biologists said 30 to 50 years was more likely.

Have you ever gone SCUBA diving and noticed how big things appear under water? I can't imagine how big that thing looked. I used to have a Lobster license and remember my first time out. I stuck my hand in between two rocks to get a lobster out. I found out that they don't have the rubber bands on their claws until after they get caught.

I found out the same thing about snow crabs.. the only time they won't pinch is if their legs are on your plate.

Too bad about Bubba, its been on the news around here for the last few days, nothing much has been happening here so they had to milk it for all it was worth, maybe they just should have left him alone. Does a lobster have nipples, you can milk anything with nipples.

    Default lobster

My dad gets mad at me when I go out on his boat. He has 5 lobster traps, and I won't touch them or the lobsters at all. I'll head to the other end of the boat or drive the boat instead. The last time I pulled them was 8 years ago when i was 10 and I ended up getting handcuffed... Thats enough to scar a 10 year old girl for life lol, and it hurt.

    ffdfireexplorer,

10 years old and already playing with handcuffs?

That explains all those weird fetishes then.

What they aren't telling you is that the "quarantined area" they put him in had several halved lemons, some bay leaves, some seaweed, and a bunch of Old Bay Seasoning in it. Oh, and the bubbling he saw just as they dropped his arse in the "quarantined area" wasn't from an aerator either.

Bubba was at Wholey's Fish Market in Da' Strip District...sad thing is some lady offered them $500.00 for him two days prior to his demise.
