Default 4 Story Building or Higher

What constitutes a 4 story building? Do the grain silos in my district count? It seems I've seen this question before but a search on this forum didn't turn up and answers. I'm hoping ya'll can.

10 feet of elevation makes a story if you're referring to ISO recommendations for requirements for aerial apparatus.

This was in reference to the question "How many commercial, industrial, residential, or institutional structures in your jurisdiction are more than four stories tall?" in this section Department Characteristics (Part I) of the grant application.

I know from this discussion that DHS/FEMA doesn't recognize churches as 4-story buildings. Basically, the way they explained it to me several years back, there's no occupation 24/7 in them. (As far as asking for the Aerial Apparatus - I can assume that's where this question stems from, the ? on the app,) I would recommend calling one of your Regional Fire Protection Specialist and asking them that question. They're the guys (and gals) who come out on the site visit and make sure what you have matches what you said. If they're not going to allow them (like churches) you need to know that.

If you don't have their contact name & number from our Region, email me and I'll send them to you.

True, churches wouldn't count since only the steeple is probably that tall. Neither would the silos, radio towers, etc. Only factories, warehouses, apartment complexes, schools, and office buildings. Something where you'd normally find people at that height.

Thanks that helps. All we have that would count then is an old abandonded flower mill. We're not looking at a ladder, just wanted to answer the question correctly.
