Thankfully, this guy didn't get hurt too badly.
From the San Mateo County Times:
Man jumps in front of fire truck
Southbound lanes of El Camino Real were closed for a short time Sunday morning after a man intentionally jumped in front of a moving fire engine, police said.
The incident happened near the intersection of El Camino Real and 27th Avenue around 10:20 a.m., according to Lt. Robert Ross of the San Mateo Police Department.
The man, whose name was not released, sustained only bruises after being hit by the truck, which was responding to a call at the time. He was taken to a local hospital on a psychiatric hold, Ross said.
Asked how police knew the man's
crossing the street in front of the fire truck was intentional, Ross said, "He told us that."
Ross said the southbound lanes of El Camino Real were closed for about 15 minutes while the investigation was continuing.

We had a younger female driver pull out in front of us one day. Attempted suicide by firetruck.
Going hot to a call, she looked at us, pulled out of the parking lot, and then stopped her car in our lane. We hit her hard enough that it dropped the extended bumper on the truck, and damaged the frame.

What a Froot Loop...
Bet if he would have ran a couple of pedestrian vs. auto calls he wouldn't have decided that stepping out into traffic was the best way to go.

I wonder why he wanted to pick on a Fire Apparatus, and not do the smart thing... Step out in front of a Semi.

NOT funny.
Actually happened in my county, to a driver I knew, and driving for the same company as I was at the time.
70mph, Interstate, mentally disturbed girl.
She stepped in front of the truck like walking into a convenience store.
Destroyed the hood of a 6 month old Kenworth T600.
She was pretty well scattered all over the lanes. (and truck)
Mechanic found "meat" under the truck when they got it back.

Had one the other day.
By eyewitness accounts, guy dove head first into the oncoming train once he was on the tracks.
Train won.
It was morning rush hour and at least he had the presence of mind to not jump in front of a Manhattan bound train and mess up the morning commute.
Yeah yeah. I'm bad.

No matter how you look at it, that is just bad PR to be hitting pedestrians regardless of their motivation. I would not want to wish that guilt on any driver.

Love these blasts from the past.
There was suspicion about a recent apparatus accident in Northeastern PA.
New truck being brought from factory to a department in NJ (passaic city? I think).
Had an accident and there was some suspicion that this was a suicide.
Either way... damn.I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.
