WT - I have a couple of questions about forum searching.
- Why isn't there an overall "search all active forums" option? To query things in different categories requires multiple searches. Officer.com had this when they were running this version of forum software, and continue to have it after the update. If it is to limit the workload on servers... see my next question.
- Why can only 1 search be performed in 30 seconds? It is INCREDIBLY frustrating when you are trying to find something you KNOW is on here, but might not be using the right terms. It turns what should be a 10 second hunt into a 5 minute ordeal. I realize you want to limit searches as they eat up processor cycles on the server... BUT... why not allow MemberZone subscribers to be able to search to their hearts content?
I guess I'm confused why one useful search wouldn't be preferred to numerous searches because of the limitations?
Just two things that drive me crazy... thanks.

Ask and you shall receive.
Both options added (or adjusted)
Was previously limited due to load of many searches on the old servers long ago and never put back.

while you are on the topic, can you also allow searching of 3 letter words? it's like searching for eye protection, and getting the error taht searches need to be longer than 3 letters. or searching for minitor III. or LED lights
If my basic HazMat training has taught me nothing else, it's that if you see a glowing green monkey running away from something, follow that monkey!

Haha, that can be a pain. Usually it's easy to get around that one by just using one of the words of an abbreviation/acronym, or a general category. You can use google to site search the forums, though it usually produces less-than-complete results depending on when it last indexed the site, etc.
And while the iron's hot...
- Any thoughts on (or plans on) making the move to vBulletin 3.07, WT?
- Why aren't all forums categories consistent in IMG and uploading capabilities? It's frustrating when you try to share a thought visually, but you can't because the thread is in the EMS General category, for instance.
(thanks again for re-enabling searches for all forums)Last edited by Resq14; 03-20-2005 at 06:07 AM.

We'll look at the settings for individual forums.
Probably will upgrade to the newer version of VBulletin sometime this spring.

Thanks for listening, WT......... And I also like the idea od getting rid of the 3-letter limit to search........ Anything with EMS in it is another example......

I tried searching for 'ISO' and I'm now told the min. letter count is 4 per word.
HELP!!!!

Depending on what you're looking for about ISO, try
"insurance" and "class"
or
"class" and "water supply"
"ladder company" or "engine company" and "required equipment"
Until/unless it's changed, just work around it. With so many TLA's* in public safety, it can make it difficult.
*Three Letter Abbreviation

Ditto on the 3-word search! Thanks!
Now...how can I log out without having to go to the main Firehouse Forums - Firefighting Discussion page? Am I missing something? Any way to put a "logout" link on each page?
