Question $10K helmet claimed to be from WTC 9/11

Someone has a yellow Cairns Metro style lid on eBay claiming it was found at the WTC on 9/11. Who ever it is, they are asking $10k for it. Here's the link; eBay

What do you guys think of this?

    Default Sad, Very Sad

I hope that there aren't any unfortunate souls who bid on this. More than that though I hope that no one who lost a family member, friend, coworker, etc. sees this auction at all. I have several other helmets here at the house that I could say were found there. So what. This is a Whacker to the enth degree !!!!

This guy should have died in a crib fire, trying to profit off the blood of others. I hope he rots!!

I took the liberty of reporting this item to EBay, hoping they will come to their senses and pull it off the listings.

Can't you email a seller on ebay? I'd say an email from the masses telling him exactly what is thought of him and his auction is in order.

What he's doing is plain WRONG!!!!!

Yes, click on "ask seller a question".
Ask him to have all questions and responses added to the listing, if he refuses - you know he's full of it (as if you didn't already).

Here's the response I received from the guy when I questioned the integrity of his auction.

    From: travbran21@XXXXXXX.com

"did i say it was i knew for sure that it was an FDNY helmet?! no... didnt think so... mind your own business

I was nice and removed the domain from his e-mail

Right after 9/11, I rmember working with the feds on a search warrant in North Jersey. They hit a salvage yard where steel from the WTC had been "diverted". Something about removing items from a federal crime scene.

Seems to me, that this item would fit the same bill.

Ray, didn't PANYNJ wear helmets similar to this?

"Burned and charred" Not even close. One number, missing, one char mark, and a bubbled 2nd number. Looks like a lighter to me, check the burn patter.

Odds are this wingnut stole one of the helmets of those that came from surrounding areas. I know a lot of folks from EMS Agencies that got pulled up there from all over NJ and PA, and most of them had yellow metros last time I looked. I thought most NJ EMS agencies were called Rescue Squads, at least those that I saw going to and from the Jersey shore for vacation.

I'm posting this to a county forum from up that way to see if anyone can shake the tree and find out if 14 is the squad number, or if someone had that numbering system for their folks.

Once again, you think you've seen it all...

I just submitted this email to the jack*****:

Not a single member of FDNY wears these helmets. It's a helmet from an EMS squad in PA or NJ that came up for support after the towers fell. But just because I can, since it's a federal offense to have removed items from Ground Zero, I'm passing on this information to my friends at the FBI, whose has jurisdiction.

Of course since anyone that has ever spent a minute in a fire dept. knows a lighter burn pattern when they see one, so it's not from Ground Zero for at least 2 reasons. You're an *****. I'd worry about attaining high school intelligence before you try for college.

I think I migh bid on it then stiff the guy.

The negative feedback and Ebay heat would be so worth it.

George has a point, wasnt there people busted for trying to sell rubble?

If it was the guys personal helmet or something then he probly would be in the right.

If he picked it out of the rubble then he is probly in some trouble...and in need of a firm kick in the groin.

Here are the pics from the auction.

Nothing to indicate what agency or anything that I can see.

There are literaly tens of thousands of helmets just like this across the USA.

    This guy is dipsh*T.

If anyone has this person's contact information please PM it to us. We're doing a story about this item (we already emailed the auction person but all he did was try to spin it into a marketing thing that we might do a story on it instead of reply), so...if anyone has location, name, etc. please send it along.

This ebay auction will be featured in firehouse magazine!! How about that for publicity!! Thanks guys!! This could quite possibly be the most controversal item sold on ebay.
