Residents at the Brookwood Club Apartments told First Coast News they heard a boom and ran outside but there was little they could do as fire raced from car to car.
Residents told First Coast News the fires started before 1:30 Tuesday morning. All the cars were parked beneath the same carport, which was also charred and partially melted.

A spokesperson with Jacksonville Fire And Rescue told First Coast News that the incident was an arson.
