I initially saw this in yesterday's printed news and wondered something. The report reads that the 'cargo' flew over the cab when the driver did a hard brake application. Being that is a liquid cargo, were the tank vents not closed and locked?
Canadian truck spills cargo of human waste
Associated Press Thursday, March 24, 2005
FLAT ROCK, Mich. - A truck from a Canadian treatment plant spilled human waste in a Michigan community on Wednesday, spreading the sludge across an entire block, the city's police chief said.
Chief Steve Tallman of Flat Rock police said the spill at about 6 a.m. EST closed two southbound lanes of Telegraph Road, a major artery, and drew hazardous material crews from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
"It looks like the truck driver locked his brakes, and the stuff went flying forward over the cab," Tallman said. "Just be glad it isn't July."

Rick,
This incident occurred about 30 miles south of me. The trailer involved was not in a tanker, but a gravel-hauler type. The "cargo" resembled fresh asphault and was cleaned up with front-end loaders.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH... that clears the picture up. The article in the paper did not have a photo with it, so I kinda wondered. Not the best way to move biological waste products though.

So Tim, did you have to conduct any CISD councelling for this one?

But I would gamble a few bucks they were probably picking up. The trend back east is to import US garbage and waste back to Canada to alleviate the pressures on US landfills (we supposedly gots lots of space up here).
And the stuff in question is the final by-product of solid treatment. It is pressed sludge with most of the water removed. It actually makes an excellent fertilizer, so you could've build a nice garden on that block.

From my past-life experiences in the DPW, the melon and 'mater seeds come with the load. Our WWTP had the best vegetables (and an occasional pot plant
).

Somehow, on this one, I was going to include the phrase "$hit flows down hill", but Fig Newtons? Are you telling me that after all these years, Fig Newton filling is made from Canadian crap? What's next? Jell-O is made from pig skins?
