Default New visitor and new firefighter

I have been a volunteer for 12 years and was a police officer for 12 years. Got tired of carring a gun so I jumped into the Career of Firefighting at age 40. My wife says its a mid life crises.

I have a small catering buisness to pay for my real love of life, Competetion Barbeque. I compete in KCBS comps in VA, NC, MD. The guys and gals at the FD love the fact that I can cook.

    BillTheGrillGuy,
Its only taken you 12 years to wake up? LOL, I know several guys that did the same thing (in house transfer). Did you have seniority on the police department and did it transfer?

P.S. Welcome to the best part-time job of your life; depending on the
type of shift your department works.

Thanks for the welcomes. Yea, 12 years to wake up. Once I get on shift it will be great. We work a 24 on 24 off 24 on 24 off 24 on 96 off. I did have seniority at the PD and no it didnt transfer. My vacation, retirement and salery all transfered but I drop to the bottom of the totum pole.

    Default Hey Bill

Just remember the old joke..."What do firefighters and the polices have in common?...THEY ALL WANT TO BE FIREFIGHTERS!!!"
Anyway, in the big scheme of things, welcome to the bottom of the "help chain". Traditionally, when the police run across something they can not handle, they call the fire department...when Rescue runs into something that stumps them, they call the fire department...when EMS gets ahold of something that throws them, they call the fire deaprtment. When the fire department gets into something nasty, they call another fire department. Thus we are truly at the bottom of the help chain. Welcome to the brotherhood!

The Deputy Chief will be the Acting Chief until a search is conducted. I wouldn't mind it if he was the future chief. He is very smart on a fire ground. Hey, he did hire me.
