    Smile Thank You...............

Ladies and gentlemen, Thank You. I've been absent for several days, and after this post, I'm going to get a nap, and back to the station at 07:00. (it's now 01:00) We've lost another Brother at Glenn Dale, the Funeral is at 10:30 Monday. (I guess thats today) Robert "Bob" Mason was a friend and Brother Firefighter for about 25 years when he died on 3-29-05 after a long battle with Cancer. Bob was quite a guy, one who truly gave a damn about others. At the time of his death, he was the Assistant Operations Manager for Prince Georges County's Public Safety Communications System. Bob's desire to do positive things led to his developing a program to teach the importance of the "911 System" to children as they became old enough to use the telephone. Bob once said to me that "If I'm able to teach one child how to summon help in an emergency, and that saves a life, I've done my job". To Bob's credit, there are a number of just those kind of calls on record. He did his work exceptionally well. As I wrote in his eulogy, Bob did not wear Brotherhood on a T Shirt, he lived it. We'll take him for his last run on Engine 181 in a few hours, then we'll party a bit. There's more at www.gdvfd18.com I'll be back in a couple of days. Stay safe. Harve

    Smile Thanks Folks .......................

Thanks for your condolences, I'll pass them on to the Family, Bob's son Danny is one of our Lieutenants. The Funeral went very well, with an excellent turnout, including a dozen other local Departments, Sheriffs Office, Etc. Things are drying out, and we're back to some fairly small Brush Fires again. And life goes on.....

    Smile Well...............

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Forums: Thank you. I think that the accolades are larger than the accomplishment. One humbling event did happen this morning. A fellow forums user emailed me to ask if he could quote me in something that he was writing. Apparently my comment on Liability in the thread about mounting equipment on the front bumper struck a nerve, in a positive way. And I respectfully submit that is why we're all here, to share, to learn, to become better at what we do. Thanks, Happy New Year, Harve
