Default Public Relations Flyers, Brochures, Ads

Our Local is looking to step up our level of public relations. We are working with the IAFF and they have been very helpful.

We are looking for examples of what others have done on their local level, so we can have multiple different approaches to getting our message out.

If anyone has a sample flyer, brochure, newspaper ad, etc, they are willing to share, it would be greatly appreciated.

Guy's, keep in mind that this is something that has to be on going, not just something that you do when you want something.

We want to let the community know who we are, what we do, why we need a certain amount of personnel, etc. We are also interested in letting the community know the importance of response times, station locations, etc.

We are no asking for anything at this time. As oldman stated, we want this to be an ongoing process and keep our name out there in the good times and the bad. Every year we battle the budget process and we want to have the community on our side.

    Thanks for the replies.

A great way to get your name out, and do something good for the community, is to have a canned food drive where residents (AKA voters) can drop off items for say, the womens shelter, or food bank, get the chief to allow the stations to be drop points and make up your flyers to take with them. This way they come to you, and you can hand deliver and shake hands with those same people that you will be asking for support later on. Tell them who you are and what plans you have, what direction you want your city to go, and how you plan to help. Give some history on the department, if the chief supports you , history on him/her, talk a little on the how important staffing is, and what you are expected to do in the community, mention fire prevention stuff, and maybe place TOT FINDER, MR. YUK, and VIAL OF LIFE stuff with your letters. If you need info on that let me know-

Also, find out what they do, once you begin to move for a cause (civil service) whatever, use the businesses in the community, like printers, screen print shirts, etc., and give money back to the people that support you- even if they are a little more expensive. Its money well spent.

Hope this helps, and mail if you need anything else.

The career stations in our county do the food thing. Something not to do. The union has made phone calls soliciting for events and worded the pitch in such a manner that the unsuspecting would think that it was the local volunteer company. They have called our house three times and all three times had it pointed out to them. The volunteer company does not do phone solicitations.
