    Default Working in the US

    Hey guys !

I'm currently a paramedic student in Canada. I need more information about becoming a Fire-medic or however it's called, in the US. Is it possible ? do I need to get a special firefighter training ? what about becoming a US citizen...?

    Thanks for helping !

    Default Ummm...

There are so many issues here, I dont know where to begin.
First, I am guessing you need to become a citizen, then
challenge the national registry and then complete the
standard training for the specific state you wish to work
    in.

Just crossing over a different country's PM cert. would be
    tough.

I dont know what else to tell you. Look into the laws that
allow Doctors from other countries to come to the USA and
    practice medicine.

    Good luck, Bou

You need a green card (permanent residency) to work at most FDs. A few require citizenship. Either enter in the green card lottery, or marry an american. Otherwise, you won't be able to get hired in the US. No FD will help you get residency- you have to do it on your own, and it's not easy.

As far as transferring your PM cert, check with the EMS office for the state you're interested in moving to. They should be able to help you.

Canada is excluded from the lottery...

Are you sure the FD wouldn't help me get my greencard ?...

Think I found how to get a working permit thing :

it's called TN Work Visa Package :
A TN-Visa is a temporary work visa available only to citizens of Mexico and Canada.

I have never herad of an FD that will hire you with just a work visa. Work visas expire, and a municipality is looking to hire someone for 20-30 years. You won't find an FD that will assist you in getting a green card. Some jobs in the private industry will help (usually by writting the job announcement in a way that makes you the most qualified applicant), but a civil service job won't.

You'll just have to find some super-hot, super rich American girl, and marry her. That way, you get citizenship.

Another option is to get hired at an FD in Canada, and get into one of the international exchange programs, where you and a American FF trade jobs and houses for a year.
